This privacy policy describes how the “Tree & Plant Identifier by Green Thumb” Chrome extension (“the extension”) handles information. The extension is provided by Green Thumb Tree Specialists (“we”, “us”).
What the extension does
The extension lets you right-click a plant or tree image on a web page and receive an identification of the species along with care information.
What data we handle
- The image you select. When you choose “Identify this plant with Green Thumb” on an image, that single image is sent to our identification service and then to the Pl@ntNet plant-identification API so the species can be identified. The image is used only to perform that identification and to return the result to you.
- One setting. The extension stores the address (URL) of the identification service it contacts. This is saved locally in your browser’s extension storage. It contains no personal information.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect your name, email, browsing history, or other personal information.
- We do not sell or rent any data to third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising, tracking, profiling, or creditworthiness decisions.
- We do not store the images you identify after the identification is returned.
Third-party services
Identification is performed using the Pl@ntNet API. Images you choose to identify are processed by that service to return a result. Please refer to Pl@ntNet’s own terms and privacy information for how they handle image data.
Data retention
The extension does not maintain a database of your images or activity. Images are transmitted only to perform the identification you requested and are not retained by the extension.
Permissions
The extension requests access to web pages so it can read the image you right-click and display the result on the page you are viewing. It acts only when you explicitly choose the right-click menu item.
